Preparing for a successful Newborn Session
A few days before your scheduled session I will email a Newborn Session Prep Guide to help you prepare. Until then, here are a couple highlights to get baby ready for their modeling premier!
If Mama is breastfeeding, avoid eating foods that you have personally found effects your baby's tummy. Each baby is different: some sensitive to when Mama eats dairy or others when she eats onions, broccoli, pasta, etc...whichever foods you've noticed, avoid those starting the night before. I keep Grip Water drops here but if there is something you've found helps calm your babies tummy, bring it along.
If possible, bring a pacifier. Even if baby doesn't take one, popping one in to help baby settle between poses for a very short amount of time could mean the difference of easily transitioning between poses and waiting and waiting for long periods of time. If you choose not to bring one, that if fine too. Just know the session could take a bit longer. We work on "baby time" and I am extremely patient and will work as hard as I can with your sweet one to keep them settled.
If you are able, bringing two 4 oz bottles of either pumped milk or formula is also very beneficial to keeping the flow of the session moving along smoothly. If not able to pump a bottle, don't stress! I understand this is all still new and we will break for you to nurse. Just plan on the session taking about 20-30 minutes longer each break for nursing.
Keep baby awake at least 1 hour before the session. A nice warm bath an hour before leaving is a nice way to have some one-on-one time while interacting with baby to keep him/her awake so they'll sleep snug-as-bug when you arrive!
Dress baby in an outfit that won't require a lot of jostling or taking off over-the-head that could disturb baby when I take them out of their carseat. Choose a simple zip-up outfit that doesn't require a lot of fuss.
